The Pelicans achieved their first victory in four games with a 110-96 win over the Knicks on Monday night. The win came on the back of Anthony Davis’ 40 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Despite leaving the game in the third quarter with a hip injury, Davis was able to rack up his monster stats in just 29 minutes of play. Besides AD, the rest of the Pelicans struggled to score, just as they did against the Celtics. However, Buddy Hield posted a respectable stat line of 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. For the Knicks, it was a rough night on all fronts. They started the night without starting point guard Derrick Rose, and lost Carmelo Anthony and Kyle O’Quinn to ejections during the game. O’Quinn’s ejection came after he committed a hard foul on AD, causing him to leave the game with a hip injury. Every starter for the Knicks, had a negative +/- rating as well. The Pelicans next game against the Nets provides an opportunity to build off of a strong performance of Monday, if Anthony Davis can get back on the court. In order for the Pelicans to make the playoffs, games against struggling teams like the Nets are ones they have to win.
